You're seeing the beginnings, be they ever so humble, of a brand new Artistlaunch.com. As most of you know, controlling interest of the old site was sold 16 months ago and though I believed in the best intentions of the new ownership, and that the wherewithal to maintain and then to move forward existed, those beliefs were ultimately dashed and the AL we all knew was gone. And then the AL we didn't know was gone too. Very frankly, while AL spent much of the last year and a half taking one backwards step after another, many of the services we once provided, or were striving to find a way to provide, came to fruition elsewhere. And perhaps some of the things we once spent so much effort on in the past, things that seemed to have some value and importance at the time, now reveal themselves to be trivial and meaningless with hindsight. What we don't want to do, and there's already general agreement on this principle, is spend time developing redundant technology or resources. Much of what we were doing before is being done elsewhere, and in many cases better than we once did it. We're not here to reinvent wheels, our own from days past, or anyone else's. So, what do we do now? Well, I've got a few ideas. And so do a number of others. We'll be looking for input from the artist community as well, including as many of the great artists from the old site as we can entice to come back and take part. All the details will be revealed over the coming days, weeks, and months. We've got an encouraging grab bag of tools we can use that will aid in our ability to roll out the things being discussed and planned. I'll leave it there for now. Details, and lots of 'em, very soon. If you're interested, I can tell you that I've spent much of my months away from AL engaged in things musical (I can honestly say, my bass playing has improved somewhat, and I played a number of fun gigs), returned to more normal patterns of waking and sleeping hours, became heavily interested in the election campaign (gawd, is it really almost over?), and I've spent a fair amount of time reminding my wife that she has a husband. And not a moment too soon. Is there room in my life for a new Artistlaunch.com? Well, I can't ever go back to the way it was, but then Artistlaunch won't be going back to the way it was either. And this will be much more of a team effort. A lot of the work that constituted the daily grind at the old site is work that will never again be repeated. A different mission, different requirements. At this point, let me just conclude for now by saying I hope you'll join me and the new team for what I hope, and expect, to be a very interesting ride. pL
