Simon Cowell plans to take the ITV talent show format to Las Vegas as part of a global Internet venture, Cowell said the pair planned to stage two shows a week which fans could watch online on a pay-per-view basis. Apparently he thinks the X-Factor is on the same wavelength as Formula 1 racing, quote: "We both understand the consumer - we know what the public wants.". NO! The public are mostly sheep, Cowell is leading them into a pen where prefabricated talentless morons brainwash them into submission.
Last month, Cowell - who is also a judge on American Idol - was named by Forbes.com as the highest earner on US television. Cowell earned an estimated $75m (£44.7m) from June 2008 to June 2009. That is the motivation for this modern day freak show... money!
Another one of Cowell's 'frankenstein' creations is Susan Boyle, the frumpy middle-aged bipolar wannabee who pushed Cowell's button on 'Britain's got talent' and made $ signs throb in his eyes. What a masterful stroke of fortune for Cowell and a bloody headache for all 'intelligent' music lovers the world over. The last thing this world needs is more Andrew Lloyd Webber covers and now we are subjected to this pithy nonsense all over again with Boyle's new album.
She topped the US charts, setting a first-week sales record for a female debut album. The Britain's Got Talent finalist beat competition from American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, whose debut charted at number three. Boyle, 48, also topped the UK chart on Sunday. Her album became the best-selling debut in UK chart history, selling 410,000 copies in its first week.
These are horrific statistics... in the west it is now cool to be green, recycling, lower carbon emissions etc. I suggest we could save carbon by gagging this annoying woman alone. And the waste of the world's resources by producing that amount of CD's that will get listened to maybe once is appalling. For a good article on Susan Boyle read here
Finally Lily Allen. She was propelled to musical success via myspace and deserves it. However after getting involved in the 'illegal downloads' debate and several blog rows later has declared she no longer has any time for the Internet.
She said, "I've stopped everything, I haven't got a computer and I haven't got a blackberry. I don't do emails or anything now. I've decided to stop being so hypocritical and consume things and pay for them. I buy music in vinyl and buy newspapers. I support the industry I'm in. Whilst she takes a break from music she said she would set up a rental fashion store with her sister called Lucy In Disguise. The London singer says she'll also use her time off to set up a record company.
I think she is suffering from 'blog' overdose, it happens to all of us, you have a few arguments online and your head explodes and you shut everything down. You feel abused, you develop deep technostress and switch off.
However, don't forget it was the Internet that gave Lily Allen the opportunity to do those things and the humble 'myspace' that got things rolling.
